Changing students’ habits is always a challenge. So, if you are in the education industry or you have student resources and are considering promoting Coohom to earn a decent income, then this case study is for you.

I am Gboyega Hassan, the founder of Handistery, a Nigerian educational institution. I studied Architecture in college, majoring in Interior Design and Furniture Making, so over the last ten years I have been exposed to some of the top frameworks in interior design and furniture making in Nigeria, working with different friends. Just two years ago I set up my own business and ran a vocational school, Handistery, where we trained people in different skills across a variety of industries, one of which was 3D visualization, which is why we use Coohom in our vocational schools.

First contact with Coohom? Why choose to join Coohom Affiliate?

I think this should be something in 2019, I was working with different types of designs as an architectural designer before COVID. I learned AutoCAD traditionally, but I noticed that it wasn’t quick and easy to use, I was looking for a design software that could be quick for my design presentations and things like that, so when I stopped by and stumbled upon Coohom, it Seems to give me the solution I need. It’s so fast, I mean rendering. And unlike other traditional software, you can design online without having to install it on your device. It’s browser-based, so you can just log in and start working, and your employees can view it anytime, anywhere. I fell in love with the flexibility and solutions. So in 2021 after I did a few projects using it, I started teaching at a design school, and the students were all new to the field of industrial architecture, and I said, why don’t you guys try Coohom?  That’s what I’ve been using. From then on they opened up…everyone loved it and happened to find out that the Coohom Affiliate Program was recruiting partners and I saw that Nigeria didn’t know there was such a convenient tool and it was a major gap so I decided to join and start promoting Coohom. The necessary condition is that you visit the Coohom affiliate join link and submit an application. What is your workflow for promoting Coohom in training and teaching?

I mainly conduct paid training, and students pay for online courses and offline classes on the website. Offline people started to learn about Coohom, and they found it very interesting, but most of them only learned the basic functions. Students generally only used the basic version, but missed a lot of things.  I try to teach people not to be so resistant because it makes your job so much easier. So I have different options. For example, when I record a course, students only need to watch my recording, and most of the time they will understand it by just watching the first two basic tutorials on usage. Once they have the basics of how to paint a wall, how to walk out of a room, they can start designing. I also do demos from scratch, I show them a behind-the-scenes look at a building project project that I’ve worked on, I show them construction drawings that I’ve done. I then showed them complex projects I had completed and showed them how Coohom was able to make it happen, ensuring interested designers asked me questions. Because my courses are paid.  And the Pro subscription package has a lot of features that a lot of people don’t know about yet, which is why I’ve been advocating for this. Because I spent time studying the software or have used other software as an architect. Maybe on places like YouTube, beginners can get lost. They may not quite understand how to get started, so I have to spend time doing more things from scratch… basically educating them through daily projects to try and learn features from scratch. Because I am a professional, we also do demonstrations during the design process.

What are the challenges you face when promoting Coohom?

When students come in and say they want to learn, I say Coohom is a cool tool. I will share my marketing link with them. But they have problems doing this, some people have trouble paying correctly when subscribing, in Nigeria I think payment issues are really normal, due to currency differences it would be better to pay directly in Naira, but since they are USD. So most of the time I use my own card to help people do that to subscribe (students may not have their own virtual card) and then the other issue is that for a lot of people you have to subscribe to the pro version to enjoy some of the premium features.  This is really an unacceptable problem for them, but one that I have been able to help them understand so far. It’s amazing what they can do with the Pro.  I make sure they know that basic is great and pro can do a lot of things.  You can do your drawing.  You can even create 3D drafts so you can share your renderings with your clients. So I explained it a lot and it was satisfactory to them and they said “no problem, I’m willing to accept it”, or “ok, I’m ready to use the pro version”.  So that’s the challenge. One of the challenges with using Coohom is the issue of customization and all that, but I’ve been able to work around that because I’m a real working professional with design, so I know how to go through every design process and do some custom things, For example, I am very concerned about the function of custom modeling.  But for beginners, most of the time they worry that they can’t do something.

The partnership between Handistery and Coohom is proving to be a game changer in the interior design vocational education sector in Nigeria. Gboyega Hassan’s journey with Coohom highlights the transformative power of innovative design software in education.  By integrating Coohom into his curriculum, Gboyega provides his students with the skills and tools they need to excel in the interior design industry.  Despite the challenges, his dedication to teaching and advocacy for Coohom continues to inspire future designers in Nigeria and provide them with diverse paths. Coohom is working hard to improve the potential of design tool technology and education, providing aspiring designers with cheaper, more convenient and easier-to-learn opportunities.
